What Do Facebook Changes Mean To The Future?

Most people are gonna probably say "Who cares?" or "Why?" but it's because they're thinking inside the box.
The first and most obvious addition is the ability for web developers to place Like buttons on their pages. Devs can also add relevant feeds to their pages. What this does is connects Facebook to any page that has its software implemented in it.
The next thing is Facebook looks at the internet as a graph of billions of connected links. At the moment, each page is at the mercy of the search engines, hyperlinks and word of mouth. What the guys at Facebook want to do is take all of your likes and match them up with your friends and people who like the same things you do. This will allow them to give you intelligent suggestions for places online you will like. And in the future, possibly introduce you to people like you. The internet will truly be socially networked.
Another tool Facebook gives web developers is the ability to forego proprietary logins and use a visitor's stored Facebook information to login. When it's fully implemented, you will be able to login to (my estimate) hundreds of thousands of websites by only clicking "Facebook Connect". Mega convenient.
Microsoft has partnered with the 'Book to roll out its long awaited http://docs.com/ which is a site (currently in beta) that allows you to import and export your Microsoft Office documents, share them with friends, post on Facebook, and edit from any computer with a browser. Very efficient and exciting for businesses and bloggers.
One hesitation people have is whether or not the new processes will impose on their privacy in ways they don't approve of. Facebook has given an immediate response: "NO!" They say your privacy is of the utmost importance and you can fully customize your options, even to the point of opting out of the new features.
I personally think this has the potential to be huge. I've already made a point of trying out what features I could and it seems really intuitive. For instance, have you ever said "If I could 'Like' this, I would"? That is the exact use case Facebook is looking to evoke.
As I said in a conversation a few moments ago, I believe that Facebook may be onto something unprecedented; something that could push them to Google-heights.

Anticipation and Introspection

Today I spoke with a good friend of mine about things I have pent up inside of me. I'm all alone in the world with no one to share everything with. It was incredible to share some of my most introspective thoughts and walk away feeling unjudged.

When I sat adjacent to my confidant, I unloaded about my feelings toward faith. "Things are so incredibly boring" I said. His response was something I hadn't considered: it is not with faith that I hold my discontent, but life as a whole.

My existence has come to be less than satisfactory to the world. Truthfully, I don't assume my life makes a bit of difference to anyone (outside the obligatory family influence). Not that I feel worthless; I have a future and I know that. Right now, I feel like I have failed the world.

No job. No car. No license. No money. No education. No connections. Nothing.

But I am who I am.

After the conversation, I began to contemplate areas of my life that bore me.

-Faith
-Home
-Relationships
-Forum

And the list goes on. The things that I have bore me. It's the things that lie out of reach that would prove to be more exciting.

-School
-Work
-My acoustic guitars

Now you might be thinking "Well, Cory... We all have things we want and can't have." That is true, but right now my life is full of nothing, essentially. I've decided what it is I need to change.

Well... Sort of.

Basically, my life just needs a shake-up. Something interesting. Something I can wake up thinking about each day.

So, I will continue to mould my future through servitude at Westwinds. I plan on getting my hands into as many things as I can in hopes of maybe learning something. It could be good. Even more long-term, though, I have a very high interest level in joining Americorps.

During the year of service in Americorps, I would make dirt money for my many months of servitude. The good news is that it would continue to hone in on my nature to help people. Not to mention the level of networking an experience like that provides.

There are several states in which I could serve. Americorps pays for travel and no car is needed. It's pretty rad, actually. And, as an added bonus, it would help me pay my phone bill! Not that it makes a huge difference.

So, that's my life in a nut-shell. I'm looking to make some huge changes in my life. Who knows how it will turn out? Maybe life will bore me no matter the circumstances. But chances are that it jump-starts a new era in my life!

Thanks for reading.

P.S. I'm thinking about writing a novella.

Legend of the Guardians

Now here's a film that looks like it might actually be worth paying extra to see it in 3D.

What Is Existence?

When I close my eyes,

Everything outside my head

Ceases to exist.

Sex Is Weird

A few posts back, I alluded to the fact that I think sex is "repulsive." I'll try to explain.

I feel like sex is animalistic and primitive as a form of recreation. Aside from procreation, I find it to be quite a bizarre practice. Expelling that much energy into something so messy (for lack of better phraseology) and inefficient seems silly. I often ask myself if the only thing driving us to have sex is our lust for quick pleasures.

I do feel that sex as an act of "love" is understandable.

That said, I can't say I fully understand it. Truly, I think sex outside of love is disgusting. Insulting to the evolution our race has endured.

That's all.

Oh—P.S. - The human "anatomy" is not attractive in the least.

Long Live Apple, Inc.

Most of the Mac haters in the world have little-to-no experience with Mac OS X. Transversely, everyone and their mother has experience with Windows. Thus, when PC haters bash Windows, they actually KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT.

Hipster

It disturbs me these days to see young kids trying to "become" a hipster. Why? It was never meant as a title, but a criticism. A stereotype, if you will. It's no different than calling someone who wears black a goth. It's just assumptive and out of line.

Don't get me wrong... I enjoy the occasional hipster joke.

However, when someone looks at someone with both a sense of style and political conviction, they shouldn't see a group of people. What you may call a "hipster" is indeed an "individual" with their own set of beliefs and values. The goal of these people is to create their own life outside of the mainstream. They desire to be unique. When you lump them into a group and say they are hipsters, of course offense will be taken!

Just don't say it.

A bit of a confession

Somehow, I seem to have become desensitized to the power of pornography. Seriously. Why is it that I'm not bothered by it? If nothing else, it's just revolting. (I happen to find the act of sex repulsive aside from its role in sustaining humanity and the relationships therein.)

Affirmation

The closest a song will ever get to describing me. Posting this as a courtesy to anyone who cares.
-----
I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem
I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires

I believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse tv evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity
